A Typical Day
Ever wonder what a typical day might look like for a Linsly student? While all students have different schedules, extracurricular activities and routines, let’s take a closer look at one of our students and how she spends a typical day at Linsly.
(Junior, day student)
6:30 AM RISE AND SHINE!
I usually start my morning by waking up at 6:30 and getting ready for the day. I grab my books and binders and put them in my backpack while also packing extra clothes for soccer practice later. Two creamers are added to my coffee and I’m off to school!
8:20 AM OFF TO CLASS!
My first class period of the day is English. Mrs. Zatezelo makes sure class is always engaging and often grades based on our Socratic discussions rather than lengthy tests on the novels we read throughout the year.
9:25 AM GUTEN TAG!
Next, I move to my German II class, which can be very similar to a college setting. We learn a bulk of information throughout the year. It may sound intimidating but Frau Bauer teaches it in a way that sticks and that is fun by incorporating it in games, songs, and activities.
10:30 AM ADVISOR PERIOD
My advisory means a lot to me. Whenever I walk into Mrs. Welch’s room, I am sure to be greeted with a smile and am informed about everyone’s activities. Advisor is from 10:30 AM-11:10 AM each morning, and we get to pick whomever we wish to be our advisor in the upper school after our first year. Mine is Mrs. Welch because not only did I have her for French and German she is also my forensics coach.
11:10 AM CHEM LAB
Next up is AP Chemistry! Today we are doing a lab, so it will be a really interesting class. I really like my lab partner, and our teacher, Dr. Babb is always available to help us and answer questions.
12:15 PM LUNCH
It’s orange chicken day! That’s one of my favorite lunches so I can’t wait to get down to the cafeteria and eat with my friends.
12: 50 PM AP HUMAN GEOGRAPHY
After lunch it is time for AP Human Geo class. Today I have a poster presentation due on supply chain issues that I have been working on for several days. I’m a little nervous to share my presentation in front of the class, but I know that I am prepared, so hopefully it will go well.
1:55 PM LEADERSHIP
Today we have leadership class with Mr. Zimmerman. He is working with us to develop S.M.A.R.T. goals for the semester.
3:00 PM OFF TO PRACTICE
After school, it’s time to change and head down to the soccer field for practice. We have a big game this week and our coach wants us to be ready!
Boarding students begin their day with a required breakfast meal prior to the beginning of the academic day. The school day officially begins at 8:20 AM when students start classes. Students have five, sixty-five minute academic periods that rotate each day. At 10:30 AM there is a forty minute “A Block” period which allows students to meet with their advisor, as well provide time for school clubs and class meetings to take place. The three remaining sixty-five minute periods are broken up by a half-hour lunch. The Middle School eats at 11:10 AM and the Upper School eats at either early lunch at 11:45 or late lunch at 12:20 PM. A student's schedule has seven periods, but only five meet per day, on a rotating schedule. Over the course of three days, all classes meet for two full periods of instructional time.
