Daily Schedule and Study Hours

Linsly’s boarding students adhere to a structured schedule. A typical day of a Linsly boarding student looks like:

  • 7:45 AM - Breakfast Check In and breakfast in the Cafeteria
  • 8:00 AM -3:00 PM - Attend School
  • 3:30 PM - 5:30 PM - Athletic practice or after school extracurriculars
  • 6:00 PM - Dinner in the cafeteria
  • 6:30 PM - 7:30 PM - Free time to work on homework, hang out with friends, outdoor activities, etc.
  • 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM - Study Hall
  • 9:30 PM -11:00 PM - Free time for homework, games in the Simmons Student Center, late night snack at the Snack Bar, shower and prepare for your next day, etc.
  • 11:00 PM - Lights Out
Linsly has a rigorous course load and we work with our boarding students on time management skills that will help them be successful later in life. Our Study Hall hours are mandatory for all students and are monitored every evening by one of our on-campus faculty members. Students are required to sit at their desks without the distraction of cell phones or music and complete their academic work for the day.

Our honors students who earn first or second honors each grading period are rewarded for their efforts and do not have to have mandatory Study Hall. We value hard work and effort and feel that if you work hard and earn honors, you have proven that you can handle the course load on your own.

After Hours Learning Center

This support option is available to boarding students in place of their regular evening study hall.  The objective of the After Hours Learning Center (AHLC) is to provide students additional support for study skills and academic work, and also to help them structure their study hall time.

At 7:30 PM, students go to the library where they report all of their work to the teacher/proctor who tracks it in a notebook.  Students are expected to keep track of their assignments in a daily planner throughout the day to help make this reporting easier.  The instructor will make sure the student remains on task, and also assist the student in a number of possible areas (whether it is setting time management goals to stay on track, quizzing them on vocabulary terms, or reading through an essay to offer feedback).  Middle school students work until 9:00 PM and upper school students until 9:30 PM, which is consistent with the boarding department guidelines.

The Simmons Student Center

Our Student Center is the main hub for our boarding students during their free time throughout the nights and weekends and is located on the bottom level of Diorio Alumni Hall. It consists of five major rooms which include a study room, video game room, pool room, two lounge rooms and a snack area. The entire center is complete with four flat screen TV’s and our Snack Bar which is open every evening.

The Simmons Student Center is open every weeknight from 7:00-10:00 and begins serving food at 7:30. Students returning late to campus after an athletic contest are able to eat dinner here upon their return. Students often get together in our student center throughout the week and weekends. Our kids spend time playing video games, watching sporting events, playing pool, or just hanging out in the Student Center.
