Technology

At Linsly, we believe that technology helps to foster higher level thinking skills while supporting different learning styles, creativity, and collaborative learning.

The Linsly School wants to ensure that students use their devices in positive, responsible manner. Guidelines are set at school and should be established at home as well. Resources will continuously be updated to help encourage communication between families and safe technology practices.

Technology at Linsly

Middle School iPad Initiative

In the spring of 2012, The Linsly School launched an iPad initiative with the intention of having a 1:1 program with iPads. Every student in grades 5-8 utilize iPads in the classrooms.

The iPad empowers students to have current resources at their fingertips. Some teachers have even developed their own iBooks for interactive learning. There are apps in all subject areas that bring lessons to life in the classroom and serve to greatly enhance the learning experience. The 1:1 program facilitates an experiential, project-based environment where students are encouraged to use technology to research, explore, and create.

Why Bring Your Own Device at The Linsly School?

The Linsly School is dedicated to providing 21st  Century instructions to all its students. We feel we must provide an environment that fosters and encourages the development of 21st Century skills.  In a 21st Century learning environment, students actively engage in the integrated curriculum and have access to information and apply it to solve problems.

Our students live in a world where they have immediate access to information anytime and anywhere. We must allow the students that have personally owned devices to use them to help them learn in their own style and at their own pace. We must better prepare our students for college or to face the new and every changing workforce.

Internet Safety at Home

All parents know that the internet is a great way to stay up-to-date on the news, do research for school projects, and communicate with friends, but it can also be dangerous.  As a parent, it is your responsibility to make sure that your child stays safe online.  In order for this to happen you must know your way around a computer and the internet.  A child should never know more than a parent does about the internet.  At the very least, you should know about the same.  If you are looking to block adult websites or websites that have offensive language, it will not do you any good if your child knows ways to get around the parental controls that you set.  That is why it is important that you know how to use a computer and the internet or learn if you don’t know.

In addition, parents and children should have a contract for utilizing technology at home just as the students have a policy for using technolgy here at The Linsly School.
