Thirty-Seven Advanced Placement Scholars

Thirty-seven Linsly students have been recognized for their high achievement on the Advanced Placement Program Exams.
The students, including 15 from the graduated Class of 2019, 21 from the current senior Class of 2020, and one from the current junior class of 2021, have earned the designation of AP Scholar by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college-level Advanced Placement Program Exams.

The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program enables willing and academically prepared students to pursue college-level studies — with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement or both — while still in high school.

Through AP courses in 34 subjects, each culminating in a rigorous exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue — skills that prepare them for college and beyond.

Students took AP Exams in May 2019 after completing challenging college-level courses at their high schools. The College Board recognizes several levels of achievement based on student’s performance on AP exams.

Nine Linsly students qualified for the AP Scholar with Distinction Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.5 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more of these exams. These students, from the graduated Class of 2019, are: Yiran Fan, attending the University of Michigan; Yunhan Lei, attending the University of Toronto; Haoyue Liu, attending the University of Washington; Caitlin Mead, attending West Virginia University; and Xiaoya Wang attending the University of Michigan. Michael Borkoski, Jiaxuan Hu, Qing Xiong and Jinyi Zhu from the current senior class of 2020 also earned this distinction.

Ten Linsly students qualified for the AP Scholar with Honor Award by earning an average grade of at least 3.25 on all AP Exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of these exams. These students, from the graduated Class of 2019 are Emma Augustine, attending the University of Pittsburgh; Kaifeng Huo, attending the University of California, Berkeley; and Madison Menendez, attending High Point University. The students receiving this honor from the current Class of 2020 are Alexandria Behm, Sriharsha Doupaty, Mu Du, Erin McChesney, Ziang Song, Ziyi Yang and Ruochen Zhao.

Seventeen Linsly students qualified for the AP Scholar Award by completing three or more AP Examinations with grades of 3 or higher. Students from the graduated Class of 2019 receiving this distinction are Madison Cavicchia, attending West Liberty University; Joshua Ekanem, attending High Point University, Elle Greco, attending West Virginia University; Graham Lofstead, attending Lake Erie College; Christopher Nau, attending West Virginia University; Stephen Snyder, attending West Virginia University; and Elizabeth Stern, attending Marietta College. The students receiving this honor from the current Class of 2020 are Brynleigh Buff, Yan Kang, Tyler Patt, Kylie Pell, Mingwei Qian, Eve Ridenhour, John Rose, James Taylor, Saige Zervos and Luke Zwicker. One student, Sicheng Fu, from the Class of 2021 who took the exam as a sophomore also was named an AP Scholar.

Of this year’s award recipients at Linsly, twenty were juniors at the time of the AP examinations and will have at least one more year in which to complete college-level work and possibly earn another AP Scholar Award. At Linsly, students have the opportunity to take AP courses in 13 different areas.
