Social Studies Department
The Social Studies present a story of human events from the past to our contemporary life. The various courses which are offered at Linsly provide an excellent opportunity for our students to become aware of this story.
The subject matter is analyzed and utilized in order to provide an understanding of trends toward solving problems, and revealing the past as a means of better understanding the present. The department believes that if students can thoughtfully judge the past, they should be able to determine the significance of details and concepts, and to understand the diversity and commonality in human history and civilization.
The Linsly School’s Social Studies faculty has drawn from their professional and personal experiences to create a curriculum that is rich in content, that demands the highest level of student performance, and implements a number of contemporary approaches to the subject matter. From field trips, to guest speakers, to interdisciplinary collaborations, to debates, to research papers and reports, to the use of video and computer technology, the department strives to use a multitude of approaches towards learning.
The Linsly student who has been exposed to these disciplines will have the skills necessary to be a critical thinker in an ever-changing society. They will leave the school with knowledge, critical thinking and writing skills to be more active citizens.
