The Linsly School seeks a dynamic, full-time Middle School English Teacher for the 2025-2026 Academic Year.  

Middle School English Teacher

The English Department seeks teachers who will strengthen our community by upholding our high academic standards and traditional values while bringing energy, creativity, and innovative teaching methods to our classrooms. 

We seek candidates who:

  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in English or related field (an Advanced degree is preferred)
  • Have a strong academic background in teaching writing, grammar, and literary and informational texts.  
  • Have previous experience as a teacher or teaching assistant in a middle school English classroom.  
  • Have a desire to work with students in and outside of the traditional classroom setting
  • Possess a passion for teaching and a desire to foster the most effective learning environment for our students.  

The essential duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Teach five sections of middle school English where the skills for writing and reading critically are emphasized.
  • Instruct students on the research process and guide them through writing an effective research paper.
  • Be a productive member of the English department by attending meetings, updating course curricula, seeking professional development opportunities, and supporting the department's goals.
  • Serve as an advisor to a small group of students, overseeing their academic and social growth.
  • Connect with students outside of the classroom by contributing to extracurricular activities.
  • Agree to embrace the Characteristics of Professional Excellence established at The Linsly School for teachers, including, but not limited to, always striving to seek opportunities for growth and improvement. 

As a day/boarding school, on-campus faculty housing is a possibility but not a requirement. Additional duties and responsibilities are required for living on campus, but the benefits of being a part of the residential community are substantial.
