Welcome to Linsly
Founded in 1814, the Linsly School is a private, independent day and boarding school for students in grades 5 through 12. We offer college preparatory classes that combine the traditional values of hard work, respect, honor, honesty, and self-discipline within a challenging academic program designed to unlock the potential of each student.
Lifelong learning
The Linsly School promotes academic excellence, inspires lifelong learning, develops future leaders, and emphasizes character development.
Middle School
The midle school faculty recognizes how incredibly important the middle grades are in the academic and social development of young adolescents. The middle years are a critical time in the identity formation of each student; therefore, character development, in addition to a rich and rigorous academic program , is an integral part of all educational endeavors at the Linsly Middle School.
Upper School
At Linsly, we welcome the opportunity to get to know you and your son or daughter and promise that we will get to know them well inside and outside of the classroom. Together we will discover their strengths and weaknesses and we will work to challenge them where they are capable, and support them where they need guidance. We are committed to challenging our students to work hard academically, and also to practice the skills they will need for success in college and beyond.
Boarding
The Linsly Boarding Department supports students who want to attend Linsly and experience boarding school residential life on our campus. We believe the most comprehensive Linsly experience is that lived by our boarding school students. Providing a warm, supportive, and structured environment for students in grades 7-12, the Linsly residential community is a home away from home.
Areas of Excellence
Comprehensive in nature, the Linsly experience extends well beyond the requirements of the classroom. Linsly encourages students to develop their physical skills and realize individual interests through a well-managed program of athletics and extracurricular activities. Linsly’s "no cut / no quit" policy ensures a spot for all students on athletic teams, and requires them to honor their commitments. A respect for competition and sportsmanship, an appreciation for sound physical health, and a willingness to persevere through challenges are values promoted throughout Linsly’s athletic program.
Linsly Voices
Resource
I was very shy when I came here as a freshman, but Linsly has helped me grow and become a better version of myself.
Abolaji O., Class of 2021
My best friend is from Brazil, and we are already making plans to visit each other. Getting to know people from different cultures was an experience I could only get at Linsly. I can see things from other perspectives, which will be extremely valuable in the future.
Hunter K., Class of 2021
Choosing to send our son to Linsly in 5th grade was not an easy decision, because he did not want to leave his friends behind. We knew no one going into 5th grade, but he quickly met new friends, and we all felt so welcomed to the Linsly family.
Mrs. Nancy H., Linsly Parent
I wanted to take this time in between some classes to thank you for everything you helped me through last year with not only your course but in helping me decide my future route in life.
a recent alumnus in an email to her former teacher
After my son was absent due to illness, we were able to have numerous one-on-one communications with all of his instructors and they are ALL aware of what he had been through and assured us that they would work out a plan to get him caught up. I want to thank you for what you all do for my son and all students each and every day.
Parent of an upper school student
Linsly is a community where everyone takes the time to help students tap into their individual potential, both in and out of the classroom. The teachers genuinely care for their students, and our son’s successes have been reflected in his honors reports.
Mrs. Lisa D., Linsly Parent
I can speak for both of my kids when I say that they are enjoying themselves a lot. They seem happy and as excited to go to school as any 7th and 11th grader can get. My daughter is working very hard in her four AP classes and my 7th-grade son has really come into his own and is taking responsibility for his success.
Parent of 7th and 11th-grade students
There is simply no greater feeling as a parent than knowing how happy and comfortable your children are every day at school. The Linsly School truly is a home to my two boys. They deeply admire every teacher as well as their many peers. They take great pride in being members of the Linsly family, and for that, I am deeply grateful.
